Humidity Levels
It is important to keep the humidity level of your bassoon constant, especially during the winter when humidity levels are low and the heat is turned on. Keeping a room humidifier going in the room where you store your bassoon will help. I also keep one Drymistat© in the long joint and one in the bell of my bassoon when I put the bassoon in its case after playing. Do NOT use the old trick of leaving accumulated water in the boot of the bassoon to humidify it as this is the surest way to start wood rot around the u-tube. Also, don’t forget to remove the Drymistats© from the long joint and the bell before playing.
